During the class, Mr. Riza demonstrated to us how to draw an illustration accurately using the grid lines technique.
This is the image reference I use. It was a picture of Winnie Harlow for
Moschino Pre-Fall 2021 Fashion Show
This what I did During the class:
During the class, we are required to do two sketches using different mixed media on a sketchbook to test out which media will work the best for us before we can start doing the final illustration on an illustration board.
Then, I continued doing the first illustration first using watercolor and colored pencil.
This is the first result I got from using watercolors and colored pencils. Honestly, I'm a lot comfortable with using these two media as most of the artworks I've done are done with these media. So, it was a lot faster for me to finish the first sketch.
The second sketch was definitely a failure because the result doesn't look anything like the image reference whatsoever. Basically, this is when I used some colored markers and colored pencils together and it didn't work out really. I've never drawn using any angled markers before so it was hard for me to draw the illustration nicely because I wasn't comfortable with what I was using.
Reflection
Exploring different media allows me to figure out which one would work the best for me. Although I'm still bad at using certain media, I'm still open to trying different things to expand my drawing skills. However, it was such a fun experimenting journey and I wish I was better at using colored markers especially those with angled tips.
