Assignment 1 - Exploration of Garment Draping

TASK02: EXPLORATION OF GARMENT DRAPING(20%-Individual |Week 04–Week 07)

Description

Based on the first assessment task result, students are required to create an experimental garment draping using spontaneous draping process. This task will allow students to explore garment draping in creating different shape and silhouette. Students required sketchdesign ideabefore developing the draping  process. Student  task to  add  design  detailsuch  as  gathers,  ruffles,  pleats  or panellingto complete the garment. Students are required to transfer draping result into working pattern and sew to form acompletegarment.PROGRESS: Students are required to develop 10 design idea, drape on body form, transfer paper pattern and sew to complete the garment.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Drape on body form according to design sketch
• Transferdraping result to workingpattern
• Sew garment onActualFabric

The Process

Draping Process

Start cutting on the actual fabric

Sewing each panel together

Put it on the dummy to alter some curves that don't fit properly.

The Process of doing lining on the dress

Sewing lining into the dress

Adding a zipper on the center back and finish up sewing the lining

Now the dress is fitted nicely on the dummy with a zipper on the back

Then I add some flounces as shown below to finish up the dress.

Reflection

This is my first experience doing the flounce. It was such a fun experimentation to do. Even though the dress is kind of simple but the flounces add some character to it. In terms of my sewing skill, there's still a lot of things I'd like to improve but I'm a lot braver now to do what I want than in the previous semester.
