Week 3 - Basic Skirt Draping
Week 3 Excercise (August 9th 2021)
Description
Students require to do an exercise to drape basic skirts and basic pants and transfer the draping result into a paper pattern. Progress to be recorded on e-blog.
For today's class, Mr Riza was demonstarting us how to drape a skirt and pants on the dress form. I tried to do the skirt draping. The process of draping the skirt is kind of simple as we were only assigned to do a basic skirt and this is how I did it:
Firstly, I start off by measuring the dummy first. then I add 5 inches around the rectangle except for the center front/ back sides because we only had to drape half of the dummy.
Once I've done measuring on the calico fabric, I just cut the fabric.
Mr Riza also told us to press along the center front/ back and this what it looks like after I've done pressing the fabric.
This is what the result look like:
This is what it looks like upclose:
When draping is done, I finally can take it off the dummy and start ironing out the fabric so it will be easier for me when transferring the pattern I got on a mahjong paper.
This is the final basic skirt pattern that I got from draping earlier:
Reflection
I was supposed to drape the pants too but I have lost the images of me doing it. Even the pictures I'm sharing with you here aren't complete. However, Draping basic skirt and pants are really simple. You just have to be patient when doing it so that you'll get a neat and accurate result.
