Assignment 2: Pattern Marker Making
*hightlght*
TASK02: PATTERN MAKER MAKING (20% - Individual |Week 05 – Week 09)
Description
Based on the first assessment task result, students are required to generate their shirt block into
marker making using Diamino. This task will allow students to calculate their fabric estimation in
garment production by arranging the pattern layout to reduce fabric consumption. Students should
be able to generate marker making to analyze pattern maker efficiency. Students also will be tasked
to plot the final working pattern piece with JustPrint. At the end of this task, students will assemble
the pattern by producing 3D garment sampling.
PROGRESS: Students are required to generate pattern models into Marker Manager and Maker
Making using Diamino software.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Pattern layout and fabric estimation
- Pattern maker efficiency
- Sew garment on White Cotton Fabric
- Progress must be captured in the E-blog
INTRODUCTION
Hey there! for our next task after learning how to create patterns on the two software: Diamino & Modaris, Mr.Riza wanted us to proceed with sewing the basic bodice block that we did using this software and keep scrolling down to see the entire process!
We definitely have done basic bodice before but what makes this assignment a little bit more interesting than the previous one is the fact that we had to add a collar stand and a pair of handcuffs with plackets for the detailing parts which are some things I have never done so far and really excited to try it out.
The preparation
Firstly, I started off by cutting out the patterns that were prepared by Mr. Riza. He did demonstrate to us the printing process a week prior before we get to the sewing part.

*MR. Riza demonstrates to us how to arrange the patterns according to our pattern layouts*
(sewing day MAY 12, 2022)
I started off by preparing the pattern first and then cutting the fabric
The sewing process:
Bodice
for the bodice part, the process was quite simple because all I had to do was pin-up all the side seams and then, continue sewing. But first thing first, I sew every dart front and back, then, proceed with sewing the side seams. I think this is the simplest step of the whole process besides cutting out the patterns.
this is the result that we got so far:
Sleeves
For the sleeves, I did a huge mistake and I'm still triggered by it every time I look back on the pictures. I accidentally, sewn all the side seams including the end of the sleeves because I forgot that I was supposed to add the handcuffs....yay
then, Mr.Riza asked me to unstitch the seams and basically, I had to start over doing the sleeves. At least I'm better at using the seam ripper now haha :D.....yeah
The studio was going to close soon so I continued doing them at home
AT DA CRIB!
Placket
This is the process of me doing them. As mentioned I did this before and it was really confusing when I tried to figure it out with my classmate but I tried to follow the tutorial my classmate shared with me slowly and now I learned something new.
As usual, I cut the pattern first according to the tutorial I was following.
Then I sew the rectangular part which is supposed to be the center of the placket that will be cut afterward but in the pic, I accidentally cut the slit first. I should have sewn the rectangular first before cutting the slit so it would be easier. Basically, I have to start sewing the placket on the wrong side first.
After that, I filled the placket to the right side, and right now we're facing the right side of the fabric. What I have to do now is just fold each side: left and ride one smaller and another side must be bigger. The bigger side should be on top of the smaller side cause the bigger side should have a longer top part. Both of the sides will be sewn separately and not on top of each other to create the slit except for the top part will be sewn together with the other part underneath it so I still can open the placket but they're still sewn together.
Then, I proceed with sewing the side seams and inserting the handcuff to finish the detailing parts of the sleeve. Basically, we are done with sleeves cause all I had to do at this point is joining the sleeves together with the bodice so we will have a complete shirt!
Final Process

At this point, I'm finally ready to join the sleeves together with the bodice. I also finish up the hem at the end and basically, we are done with the task
FINAL RESULT
Reflection
The point of doing this assignment is to let us experience creating patterns digitally using the software: Diamino and Modaris but besides that, I definitely have learned something new about sewing from sewing the standing collar to creating a pattern for the placket which is something that I can apply within my design in the future and I'm excited to see what else I can make and experiment in the near future after this assignment.
